From our Farm, to your Fork: The Story Behind Our Wedding Menus
@cotswoldpictures
When it comes to planning your perfect wedding day, every detail matters, especially the food. At The Barn at Berkeley, we believe your wedding breakfast should be more than just a meal, it should be an unforgettable experience. That’s why we’re proud to offer something truly special: farm-to-fork wedding food, raised and prepared right here, on our very own farm in the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside.
Unlike many venues that source ingredients from various suppliers, we serve beef, pork, and lamb directly from our own fields at Berkeley Heath Farm, just next door. This isn’t just about buying local, it’s about knowing exactly where your food comes from, how it’s raised, and who raised it. Our farm-to-fork approach gives you a connection to your food that few other venues can offer. It's quality, sustainability, and guaranteed exquisite flavour.
Meet the team
JAMES - Director & Farmer
Meet James, a fourth-generation farmer here at Berkeley Heath Farm. His family opened Cattle Country Farm Park in 1992 and The Barn at Berkeley wedding venue followed a decade later. After ten years working in agricultural machinery, James returned to the farm in 2014 and has since grown the herd to over 500 pedigree cattle. They are pasture-reared on Gloucestershire’s lush grass from spring to autumn, with high-quality, homegrown feed sustaining them through winter. James loves raising healthy, top-quality cattle, and when it comes to his favourite wedding dish, it’s an easy pick: Berkeley Heath Farm Beef Wellington.
James and the farm team do more than raise cattle, they set the standard for every ingredient that reaches your plate. Their focus on animal welfare, soil health, and low-impact farming means the meat you enjoy is not only incredibly tasty but also responsibly produced. This close connection between the farm and the kitchen is what makes our menus so special and so consistent.
BEN - Executive Head Chef
Ben is our Executive Head Chef here at The Barn at Berkeley, bringing with him 15 years of experience in weddings, four of those spent with us. His cooking style blends classic British flavours with Mediterranean influences, and his passion for quality ingredients shines through in every dish. Ben works closely with James and our trusted butcher to ensure each cut of meat is exactly right. The slow, careful way our animals are raised means beautiful marbling and rich flavour, perfect for dishes that celebrate the farm’s best. His personal favourite? The herb-crusted chump of Berkeley Heath lamb with slow-cooked shoulder, garlic mash, minted peas, and a rosemary redcurrant jus.
